Happy 150th Birthday to Canada :)  And an early 4th of July to those it applies :)

It rained like crazy this whole weekend and the fire works out this way got postponed… which happened last year as well.  So yay for random summer Saturday evening fireworks!

So, operation: ‘Invasive Rescue That Will in No Way Go Inexorably and Horrifyingly Off the Rails’ is a go.  I’m sure most of them have a go bag ready at this point, the contents of which will of course be varied and interesting… magic sparkly knife!

We had the twin’s bday party on the weekend.  Fortunately the weather co-operated and I wasn’t stuck with 12 kids inside.  Couldn’t get one of them out of the pool (”The pizza is cold!”  ”I don’t care!!”).  Minecraft themed cake (I’ll post a picture when I get the chance, my favourite cake lady is AMAZING) and water guns were gifted… we opened them up to take some action shots for my friend who got them but couldn’t stay to see.  My brother filled them and carnage ensued: Uncle Brandon was summarily executed, some of mom’s flowers were beheaded, patio tables were overturned, my mother shot me in the face (used Owen to do it), the people hiding in the house were outflanked when Uncle Jamie lead Evan in a rear assault through the front door.  There was massive casualties.

Saw Spiderman on Sunday night, fun movie :)  Then noodles for dinner with a bestie!  Then right back home and back to work, needed to get two backgrounds painted for Mon, a whole other show starting right away… every week the same.  Man, 10 years ago me would slap now me for complaining about having steady work coming in and thus a somewhat steady pay check (we’re freelance so Jim currently bg supervising and earning a salary always feels strange).

Tired.

Even by himself, Tanked can’t get away from overbearing and opinionated “siblings”… have I mentioned how much I dislike summer vacation?  There’s so much fighting and whinging, and even when they’re getting along it’s just sooooo loud :P

Been working long hours lately, I have a much shorter fuse than usual.

Whew, the kids have had a couple of late nights this week (lax summer bedtimes plus guests over late last night) and Evan had a total melt down tonight (Sunday) at Nana’s.  I haven’t seen him go off like that in awhile, and Owen kept wanting to comfort him.  I felt bad trying to keep  him away but Evan really needed some alone time and Owen had to go eat.  We sent Ev right to bed when he got home but he continued to whine about how it was too light for him to sleep (not usually an issue, he normally whines about needing his night light) so Owen asked if he could sleep with Evan.  They’re so cute together, but of course it’s been 30 min and they’re still chatting :P

I’ve been avoiding watching GOT until it’s all done, but it’s reeeeeaaallly hard to ignore all the stories and reviews online with screaming headlines like “Best episode ever!” and “Let’s discuss the Arya/Brianne fight” and “Cersei: best dressed Romulan”, etc.

Enjoyed the little cameo with fancy Tanked; it’s been awhile my friend, I should draw you more :)

I spent half the summer whining about how underfoot the kids constantly were (so loud, much fighting, I angst) and now there’s like 2 weeks left and I feel like we haven’t done much.  We’ve been so busy we’re putting off a weekend road trip for the 3rd time now, and the boys have definitely watched more tv this summer than I’m comfortable with… but deadlines and quiet and our sanity and…mom guilt.

I will miss the nice weather, but back to school time is coming :D

Back to school shopping time!   The twins are going into grade 1!  I can’t believe how old they are :(  They need their own pencil cases and everything…I’m supposed to write their names on every single pencil crayon. blah.

Oh and rescue mission aborted, time to bail boys :)

So I fell asleep before updating this one :)  I am totally working too hard.  We’re not even half way through the current show we’re working on, and the studio is testing for another potential show atm, I’m involved with design work for two more potential shows (one of which has funding mostly secured already) and the studio heads are talking about 3 more properties that might come down the pipeline… I think about our first few years living contract to contract in a small apartment and stretching every dollar.  Apartment me would be totally jealous of current me’s sudden job security…while current me wants more free time.  The summer is over already and we didn’t get to do as much with the boys as we though we would.

I have to learn balance.

Woot has a Star Wars sale on right now with 4 of my designs (plus lots of other cool stuff!) on special.

First week of school down!  The school went and separated the twins; there was tears and clinging when they got off the bus and discovered that unhappy prospect.  We’d asked that they be kept together just to make everything easier, but we knew they would put them in different classes if it ever looked like they were too dependent on each other… I just wouldn’t have expected that by grade 1 :(  And it would have been nice if they’d told us, but then I’m not entirely sure that fore knowledge would have helped Owen.  It may have made him more apprehensive to go back.  Well, all’s well in the end.  Owen cried for 10 min and got over it, Evan was likely oblivious once Owen was out of sight.

Vote incentive: starting to work on new Halloween tee designs…if I can find the time.  Apparently I have 50 backgrounds to paint for next Monday… and I thought 25 last week was a tough load :P
But here’s an old fall favourite since it’s pumpkin spice time again!

The weather lately has been so bizarre; we’re into mid Sept and the humidity and temperature during the day is like mid July.  I took the kids to the annual little fair in my little home town and they were pretty meh about the whole thing, wanted water, were too sweaty, left before too long (plus wow has it ever gotten expensive).  Next week is supposed to be warm as well… normally I’d have long ago pulled out the fall jackets.

They each got an inflatable knock off Minecraft sword and I spent the rest of the day yelling at them to stop hitting each other in the head…good call me.

Vote: more fall uncomfortable pumpkin shirts (we had such a wet July this year a lot of local crops didn’t do so well, I think pumpkins are going to be really scarce/expensive this Halloween).

Somebody asked why Cara doesn’t also have a cycle and I totally forgot to reply so I’m doing so now: she’s got something else :)

Our really strange second summer is coming to an end.  Today (Sunday) was crazy hot and humid.  I’ve had a slight headache all day, probably not drinking enough water.  I’m wondering if this is a freakish anomaly or a climate change related new reality that permanently extends our summer by nearly a month.  The idea seems preposterous, but then so does this overwhelming hurricane season.  My heart goes out to everyone affected and I can’t fathom the circumstances people are facing.

October already!  I have little free time lately, but I did manage to get a couple of new Halloween designs done :D  (Holiday designs are my favourite!  Time to start working on Christmas!!)  You know when Costco has the Christmas decorations up that I’m actually a bit behind..

Little late on this one, got home and crashed last night (pie coma).  So Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians :)  I had an image in mind of Evil’s turkey prep ideas but no time to finish it; will aim to in time for the US holiday.

Vote incentive: Gym math, should be adjusted for all the pie I ate this weekend :(

Lots of requests again for the girl bios to be updated.  I definitely mean to, it’s on my to-do list.  Unfortunately it’s a loooong list, and there’s some info I’d want to include on there that I haven’t actually revealed in the comic yet, so please stay tuned!  Jim says he’s going to try to start turning down more work this coming year, that we take on too much.  All that is true, but as a freelancer, it’s hard to say no.  Perhaps our New Year’s resolutions for 2018 will include a better work/life balance.  Or we just go insane, whatever comes first.

Page 600!  Achievement unlocked WAAAAAY slower than I would have liked :P

Sambit turns 8 on Friday, so he’s not so little bitish anymore.  Got a call from his teacher about his effort level in class, something along the lines of it would be nice if he could read a little less…lol.  There are worse problems, but I have had to yell at him a couple of times about reading while going down the stairs.  Do you want to live till 9 or what??

Stranger Things is back!  I find it hilarious how the Ghostbusters will have a big(?) presence in this 80’s show, while my 8 year old is currently really into the movies/shows/toys.  He had a Ghostbusters/Halloween birthday party on the weekend, and he can’t wait to wear his Ghostbusters costume on Halloween.  We had a super talented lady make a Stay Puft cake (pics to come, gotta get them off the camera) and we had Slimer cookies for loot bags.  So fun!  And Sam is now half way to driving :(

The neighbours have their Christmas lights up already.  Kids are pestering me to put up the tree…still haven’t gotten all the Halloween stuff down yet :P
So I posted that first panel on the Facebook page a few days ago and mentioned it’s one of my favourite drawings in the last little while.  Such a happy wittle Death!  I get that some people are keen to read/infer relationship status into everything, which is fine, but my thoughts on Death are a bit simpler about this point: he’d be happy with anybody (well, probably not Steven and co.).  I was reading an article about loneliness that was terribly depressing.  Basically, a lack of meaningful contact and relationships can be more detrimental to one’s health than obesity or heart disease.  We are very social creatures it seems.
